Floral Pattern
The decorative use of flowers dates back to Ancient Egypt, roughly 4,000 years ago, when Egyptians began displaying flowers in vases, crafting them into garlands and wreaths, and eventually incorporating them into fabrics. The trend spread to the Greeks and Romans, but it wasn't until the 11th century that floral designs became a recurring theme in Asian silk and ikat cloth. These luxurious fabrics were transported along the Silk Road to Europe, where only the elite could afford to wear them. It wasn't until the 16th century that common people began to adorn themselves with nature-inspired designs.
The floral trend exploded during the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, as new machinery enabled mass production. William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement elevated decorative arts, and floral designs soon found their way into fashionable homes everywhere.
